Status Quo to play Shrewsbury Quarry
Thursday 27th January 2011, 2:31PM GMT.
Veteran pop stars Status Quo will be rockin’ all over the Quarry when they headline a concert in Shrewsbury’s public park on July 15.
The evergreen stars have agreed to headline the first of two summer concerts at the venue, with an as-yet-unnamed pop act being lined up to follow on July 16.
The gig is the latest in a series of annual events, which have brought stars like Travis, Katie Melua, Jools Holland and famous names from the eighties to the open air venue.
Today Keith Louch, director of IML, said: “We have presented concerts in Shrewsbury for the past five summers and are absolutely delighted to be bringing Status Quo to The Quarry.
“They are, without any doubt, a world-class act and I am sure the crowds who have so loyally supported our shows since 2006 will again be excited by the news of this gig.”
The band have enjoyed worldwide sales in excess of 118 million and 22 top ten British hit singles.
Tickets are priced £35 for adults and £15 for children. Tickets are available on (01603) 660444 or by visiting www.imlconcerts.co.uk

Do they know any Elgar perchance, it is one’s favourite!
Be prepared for objections from the residents association, they’ve had nothing to complain about for a couple of weeks.
Let us hope they rock the foundations of the town and that members of the residents association remember to superglue their plonk, plonk, fizz tumbler’s to their bedside cabinets!
The un-named pop act is The Wanted, they have been tweeting it on twitter….
That’s an awful choice.
Seconded.

Rumoured to be the loudest band in the world!
I reckon Slade would push them on that Jimmy.
Salde for the Saturday?! :-)
*Slade
Report abuse
Can’t we get Salde on as well? As the opener? Salde and Slade? Think of that for a line-up.
Hopefully this will lead the way for AC/DC!!
I doubt it..AC/DC have already said they are not coming back to England on tour!
Apparently Muse are the loudest band. But look forward to seeing The Quo in the Quarry.
Top band and anyone who thinks Quo are a one-trick pony don’t know what they are talking about, don’t know much about music and certainly don’t know about Status Quo.
If you want to see a genuine quality hard working rock band playing real music, then get yourself along to the Quo gig on the 15 July.
WHO has mentioned that they’re a ‘one trick pony’?? Only you, getting all defensive when no one has mentioned it!!
Sorry your wrong Sally, look at comment 7.
Yes I’ve looked and comment 7 makes no mention of a one trick pony. That’s your interpretation!

Better get that victorian greenhouse moved fast, before the Quo shatter all the glass
Report abuse
Great! A group of has beens and a group of one hit wonders.
Hardly has-bens and certainly not one hit wonders.
Let me guess what sort of stuff that you’re into, Tasha. – Cheap, cheesy, bubble gum pop I bet.
er no! I’m a 34 yr old not a kid! Did you go to the Andy Gray school of charm or do you judge everyone by the name they go by?
I have a wide interest in music but a group of has beens who haven’t a chart hit in decades and a group who have only been around for the last few months is not worthy of concerts in Shrewsbury. I’m sure the tickets will be the usual £34 quid.
p.s What is HM short for HM Prison, Honey Monster or Her Majesty?

Not another farewell Concert, I’ saw one of them back in ’95

At last finally the greatest rock band in the world to rock the quarry at Shrewsbury.
Just hope they dont restrict the volume levels.
TURN IT UP AND ENJOY CAUSE TRUST ME YOU WILL.
I will enjoy mate.
i live 50 yards from the quarry & instead of playing there music & i can cross the road & see them live again. Rock on.
Just hope they get some other bands to follow 3 or 4 concerts a year in shrewsbury would be great

Colin.D is not me and while I am not a Status Quo fan I will defend their right to play the Quarry – I just will listen from my balcony glass in hand!
WHAT!!!! Why not dig deeper in your pockets Shropshire Council and get a Glastonbury headliner or why not trying getting somebody like Paul McCartney to entertain the masses putting Shrewsbury on the Map and showing that the Quarry is a great venue for world class acts

Dear Indie
On behalf of IML Concerts, who present the shows annually at the Quarry, may I reply to your post.
Firstly it is IML Concerts who present (and contract) the artists, not Shropshire Council, it’s us that dig into our pockets for the artist fees.
We have enjoyed presenting shows at The Quarry sincve 2006 and are very appreciative of the support from the people in Shropshire.
The Quarry has a fixed licence capacity of 10,000 for the concerts; we would love to employ Paul McCartney but sadly his performance fees + total production costs would make tickets in excess of £50 before we would start to break even on the show.
(Please remember that from the ticket price you deduct 20% VAT, 3% PRS and 10% box office fees so we don’t receive the full face value of the ticket)
I’m not sure that the people of Shropshire want to pay such ticket prices.
We will continue to bring artists to Shrewsbury working within the contraints of the overall income but we can only present artists whose fees represent good business sense.

I love the Quo the loud er the better. the residents need to turn their hearing aids down and let other people enjoy themselves. i am sorry not to be there but living in Australia has its problems. I an 67 years old and I say play it loud and play it long.

Anybody see that fantastic BBC4 film on Iron Maiden’s world tour? Now that’s a rock band. Imagine the Maiden in the Quarry!
I saw the Tom Petty one, excellent..
But the Wanted are coming they rock right????
Not!
You know some people are never happy are they, If you dont like the Quo DONT GO.. SIMPLES.
Keep quiet and let the people that do WANT to go enjoy themselves.
ITS YOUR MISS TRUST ME.

I thinks it’s wonderful, to have a big name like Staous Quo visit Shrewsbury. Not only will it put our name on the map, it was inrease tourism, as there are a lot of followers, but bring additional trade in to the town.
I’ve lived in & around Shresbury for over 25 years & still this is a town of moaners & complainers. Yes the coucil does make mistakes, like the Darwn monstrosity. But getting Satus Quo into town is welcomed by me, my family & most of my friends. Can’t wait.
Another year wasted – no sign of Rammstein being booked for The Quarry.
Of course you know that some of those fuddy-duddy town centre residents won’t like it.
Good!
da dadda da da no no i m not a fuddy duddy town centre res and i like seeing and having a good time but a group of has beens like the quo for gods sake could have got a lot better than them
Report abuse
Has-beens?! What a load of rubbish!!!
I’m 24 years old and was brought up with Quo – theyre a fantastic rock group. I’d much rather them than Paul ruddy McCartney!
I cant wait to get my denim on!

if you don’t like it don’t go! its not rocket science is it! i have been to the IML concerts around the country for the last 3 years and they are a great evening out. stop whining! £34 is not a lot to pay, Bon Jovi were asking over £100 for back row of the attic at the O2. get a life, get a ticket, get down and boogie! or get out of the way for the evening and let those who want to enjoy themselves.
