Specialist Apple computers shop to open in Shrewsbury
Monday 24th January 2011, 10:59AM GMT.
A specialist Apple computers store is set to open in Shrewsbury’s Darwin Shopping Centre this Easter, centre bosses said today.
AT Computers Ltd re-sells Apple products such as iPads and iPods, as well as offering hands-on demonstrations and expert advice in store.
It is not yet known how many jobs will be created by the move.
David Rodger, director at Jones Lang La Salle, which was appointed as managing agent of The Charles Darwin, Pride Hill and Riverside Shopping Centres last year, said it was a “massive coup” for the town.
He said AT had signed a lease last week and would be trading from the former Calendar Club store.
Mr Rodger said: “The contract has now exchanged with AT Computers which will be trading as an Apple re-seller and will hopefully be open by Easter this year.
“It will be selling Apple products and also giving demonstration’s and advice. It will be a very modern store.”

Indeed!
A retail outlet that is modern facing rather than another hand knitted chutney or mango and blackbird flavoured sausage emporium!
A retail outlet in the internet age is de facto *not* modern facing.
The mango and blackbird sausages sound interesting though – where is this emporium of which you speak.

awesome !
great news

Sounding like somewhere you go to be nosey, get pestered by salesmen wearing the generic black shirt and trousers, fed a load of over rehersed nonsense often revolving around gold stars awarded by some sort of consumer magazine and then you go home and order it for half the price off the internet.
This would however mean that post purchase you would not be able to walk down Pride Hill parading your Apple carrier bag about and therefore miss out on everyone looking at you thinking ‘hey they are soooo cool’.

You carry on using those domestic products called Windows. Some of us need professional kit, not something that gives up and thinks it’s a sandwich toaster half way through the day. If you are that worried about having your MacBook nicked carry it around in an Aldi shopping bag.

Yeah the IPhone 4 is just great , unless of course you want to , oh I dunno – ring somebody on it !!!
I’m fed up of lending my BLACKBERRY to my hapless iphone suffering mate to make a call.
You stick to your toys , but some of us need serious work tools because we are grown ups with proper jobs !

I couldn’t agree with you more. ProTools9 on OS X Snow Leopard works just fine for me thanks.
I don’t however own a cell phone that can be pinpointed through triangulation, but don’t let me put you off from wondering around with your government tracking device turned on permanently giving away your location.

You are talking absolute rubbish!
This *fully licensed* Apple reseller will sell all the Apple products at the EXACT same price that Apple do online at apple.com. They will have the latest revisions of all the hardware and software as soon as it comes out. They will also offer student discounts and a repair service.
You are not talking about Currys or PC World here. This is a consumer experience that is tightly controlled and moderated by Apple to bring a certain kind of customer experience as close to an official Apple retail store as possible.
Think before you post please.

“AT Computers Ltd re-sells Apple products”
Does this mean that it is a second hand store?
It’s not second hand products they’ll be selling but brand new. An Apple Premium Reseller is independent seller separate from Apple. You still get the great service and expertise you would with an ordinary Apple store.

In the computer biz, the standard supply chain model is Vendor (e.g. Apple), Distributor (i.e. wholesaler), who buys in large quantities from the Vendor (pallets, containers, etc.), and then Reseller (shop, online store), who buys by the unit from the Distributor.
It’s impractical for large, global vendors to establish direct relationships with retailers, hence the “middle man” distributor, who typically adds no value but charges a few percent to make their money.

The original Jake, I believe that Apple Premium Resellers in the UK deal directly with Apple rather than via distribution.
Apple have this on their website: “Apple Premium Resellers live and breathe Mac. They can help you choose which Mac or iPod is right for you; give you impartial advice on every aspect of your purchase; and provide Apple-certified training on many aspects of the Mac platform. Apple Premium Resellers offer the complete range of Macs, iPods and iPhones, together with a full complement of software and accessories, so you can find everything you need in one place. They’re also the place to get expert advice if you’re a business or professional user wanting to do more with your Mac”
Either way this is great news for Shrewsbury
Report abuse
They probably still have to buy from standard distribution channels though, although there is likely to be a level of direct account management from Apple, as you suggest. Either way, it doesn’t diminish their role as a Premium Reseller. Good news for Shrewsbury indeed, as this kind of shop has a certain amount of cachet.

Good news indeed there The Original Jake!

Jake,
No, they DO NOT buy through a typical distribution channel.
They purchase DIRECTLY FROM APPLE.
I know this from personal experience.
This is good for Shrewsbury, you get to try out the latest Apple gear and buy it at the same price with NO extra markup – Apple are very strict on this.
Re-seller means they are authorised to sell Apple products and provide in-house training.

An Apple shop and a Waitrose, incredible, look out London

lets hope all those people who welcome this shop there, like the Marylbourne train, people said they would use it and then they didnt, I wouldnt be suprised if the people of Shrewsbury let this place down too and its lost in a few months time, people will still just go to Tesco, they prefer it because its cheaper and they do better deals on the I phone too

What can I buy in this shop which I can’t online?
