A decision on whether to close a key route through Ludlow should be finalised by the end of this week, council transport bosses said today.

King Street, in Ludlow, is set to close for four weeks in February, but there has been speculation over whether it would go ahead as planned after the town’s Ludford Bridge was closed after chunks of masonry fell into the River Teme.

The bridge would have provided part of the diversion while King Street was shut.

if this is a temporary closure, no problem, but best to get ludford bridge sorted first, time to publicise the towns park and ride services to take some of the traffic out of town. it is an excellent service

others are saying that their trade remains very quiet at the moment, so why not close king street at the same time as ludford bridge remains shut? better to get it over before the season gets off? it’s likely that the repairs to the bridge will over run by some months. english heritage have got involved and as we know from the repairs to the town walls, that’s likely to turn the work into a slow motion exercise. we like the idea of turning bell lane into a contra-flow while king street stays shut. any thoughts on that?
