Yobs leave broken glass in Shrewsbury play area
Tuesday 18th January 2011, 10:00PM GMT.
Yobs left broken glass at a Shrewsbury play area, sparking fears for the safety of children using it, a civic official claimed today.
Cans were also left strewn around the play area off Falstaff Street in Greenfields and in the past a fence around the area was set alight, it has been claimed.
Karen Lloyd, secretary of Shrewsbury Civic Society, said there were concerns about the anti-social behaviour which has blighted the area in recent months. She said she had to remove broken glass from the play area at the weekend.
“It appears to be a regular occurrence down there. Fencing around the children’s area has been set fire to recently too. It’s pretty dire down there,” she said.
“They are obviously sitting on the benches drinking. At the weekend there was quite a bit of glass and things like that concern us.
“It’s a shame because there’s a nice walkway and cycle path. You like to know that you’re safe.”
Richard Ewels, a spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: “If there’s persistent problems with broken glass being left in areas where people might be vulnerable like a play area then the local police should be notified and they can investigate the matter further.
“If members of the public see property damaged or bottles being deliberately smashed then do contact police.”

The term ‘yob’ is generally used to indicate persons in their youth coupled with unpleasant behaviour, I see no indication in the report that the persons responsible were youths, so how can they be yobs?

Well we have and pay for these pcso so why not put a few to walk around the area, or basically stand there to deter yobs.

Ah, no can do, first a GRA ( generic risk assessment) will have to be carried out by a sergeant or inspector, and then of course they will have to do a CIA (community impact assessment) so as not to inhibit the goings on of minority groups.

Surely you must have got the wrong town

Its the same group of youths who have been causing problems in herongate but the residents there had enough and dealt with i themselves because the police didn’t.
Now they have moved on to Greenfields.

‘Yob’isn’t used to indicate a youth..that’s just peoples perceptions. However, from experience of this area, give me 15 young people to 1 of those who sit drinking by the river with their dogs, drunk by 11am. Get a job
