Masked raider attacks man with metal bar in Telford
Monday 17th January 2011, 10:43AM GMT.
A masked raider armed with a metal bar attacked a man during a late night attempted robbery at a Shropshire hotel. The man was wearing a balaclava and carrying a pole.
He jumped on the 19-year-old man who was leaving the Beacon Hotel in Madeley at 11pm yesterday and demanded he hand over the cash.
The victim ran back inside the hotel but was followed by his attacker. The masked man tried to get inside the pub in Ironbridge Road where he attacked a 42-year-old man who had tried to help the victim.
The would-be robber fled empty-handed after the older man defended himself and refused to hand over the cash.
Chris Ammonds, spokes-man for Telford police, said: “The 19-year-old man was approached by an unknown man wearing a balaclava and carrying a metal bar as he left the pub.
“The unknown man threatened him for the money and the victim ran back inside when the man tried to force entry.”
Mr Ammonds said the 42-year-old man was hit with the metal bar as he stopped the attacker getting in.
The two victims managed to pull the door shut and lock it before calling police.
Mr Ammonds said the suspect fled the scene and may have escaped in a silver Suburu Impreza.
Anybody with information is urged to call Telford police on 0300 333 3000.
