Review after Telford recycling collection delays

A review is to be carried out in Telford & Wrekin over the delays to recycling collections over the Christmas period.

Domestic waste contractor Telford & Wrekin Services and Telford & Wrekin Council said they wanted to “learn lessons for the future” after freezing conditions halted collections.

They said the bad weather caused the initial backlog in December which was compounded by delays for TWS vehicles offloading recycling materials at the waste transfer station.

The council has worked with TWS to create a second temporary recycling drop-off point and collections are now up-to-date and back to normal.

TWS director Adrian Collins said: “We are genuinely sorry that there has been disruption to the service and I apologise to residents whose collections were affected.

“Our collection teams did their best and beyond, in difficult and extraordinary circumstances, to keep the service up-to-date.”

No Excuses…we all know the weather was bad. However it seems everyone else managed to get to work and do there jobs.
Even 18 days after the snow and ice had long gone we were still waiting for a collection.
Is it not too much to ask, after all we sort, we wash we separate it all for them. All the council has to do is collect it.
If you were in a restaurant and had poor service you would expect a refund or discount on your bill. What do get nothing except even more cuts to our services.
Value for money no, good service provided debatable, chance of a refund ????

“Learn Lessons” is a much used phrase to do nothing and no heads will roll.
Over the period all we were told was to leave the boxes out & they will be collected – if only! I had so much stuff I had to take it to the tip and then found paper had to be put in the skip as the hopper was full. There seems to be a distinct lack of o-ordination and a lot of burying of heads in the sand.
I hope we shall be told what “lessons are learnt” and what action will be taken. I don’t hold my breath.

Funny that, everybody else managed to get to work in these “freezing conditions”.

      funny yes!

But was your office or checkout till thick with snow and ice and -8 degrees? i think not.

When you got to work the conditions you worked in were fine, not so for the lads that collect the waste.

A decision was most probably made that ensured the safety of the lads. Not having your bin emptied for a couple of weeks hasn’t hurt or killed anyone. Had one of the lads been seriuosly hurt, would you have stood up and said tough luck, as least my bins are empty?

      Again, i think not.
