Men in court over Telford factory worker murder

Two Telford men accused of murdering a town factory worker today appeared in court.

Andrezj Robaszkiewicz, 37, of Court Street in Madeley, and Mariusz Garbaczewski, 24, of Midland Court, Stanier Drive, Woodside – both from Poland – are charged with killing Pavol Lazar.

The 31 year old’s body was discovered at a flat in Farm Lodge Grove, Malinslee, on October 8.

Both men only spoke to confirm their names during the hearing at Stafford Crown Court. No pleas were entered.

Judge Simon Tonking, the Recorder of Stafford, today adjourned the case until April 11 for a plea and case management hearing.

Both men were remanded in custody.

Mr Lazar’s mother and brother had flown in from his home country of the Czech Republic for today’s hearing. Family members of both of defendants were also in court.

It is understood Mr Lazar had travelled across Europe for work but had settled in Telford.

He had just graduated from Telford’s GKN Sankey training centre and was due to take up a full-time position in the factory. Colleagues described him as “very popular and hardworking.”

A post mortem examination showed Mr Lazar died of head injuries.
