Tributes planned for Pete Postlethwaite

A series of public tributes are planned to Shropshire’s Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite, who died on Sunday, aged 64, following a battle with cancer.

A public memorial service is being planned by friends so that his colleagues from the world of stage and screen can pay tribute to his life. The date and location will be announced soon.

The BBC is also planning two tributes, including a section on Radio 4′s Last Word, which will be broadcast tom- orrow and was being rec- orded today in Shropshire.

There will also be a 45-minute BBC 2 TV tribute on January 15, in which friends and former colleagues will talk about his life and work.

Mr Postlethwaite’s family will hold a private funeral in Shropshire for his closest friends and relatives.

People around the world have paid tribute to Mr Postlethwaite, who had continued working until the last few months of his life.

The last film he shot, Killing Bono, is due to be released in April.
