Investigation after Shrewsbury hair salon gutted by fires
Tuesday 4th January 2011, 7:27PM GMT.
Fire officers have launched an investigation after a Shropshire business was gutted following reports of two separate fires on Christmas Day causing thousands of pounds damage.
Angela’s Hair Fashions, in Shrewsbury, has been left with extensive smoke damage from flames which ripped through the three- storey building in Castle Street.
Inquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fires, which are believed to have broken out at about 2.30pm and 9.30pm.
Two fire appliances were sent to a property fire in Castle Street just before 4pm on Christmas Day.
The fire, in the lounge of the second-floor flat, was out just after 5pm.
A spokeswoman for Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service could not confirm if there had been two fires at the premises, but said an investigation had begun.
Businesses owner Angela France, of Ellesmere Road, Shrewsbury, has been left devastated by the damage caused to her salon.
Her sister Mandie Mulloy said the initial fire started in a flat above the salon but firefighters were called back to the property to tackle another blaze which broke out later that evening.
She said: “I left my sister in tears at the salon on Christmas Day. It’s been very upsetting.
“There were two fires, one was at around 2.30pm and then a second one at around 9.30pm.
“After the first fire I had a phone call from a friend saying the roof was back on fire. I couldn’t believe it.”
