Confidence warning over Shropshire County Show
Friday 31st December 2010, 6:40PM GMT.
The acting chairman of the Shropshire County Show today warned that creditors who are owed thousands of pounds could suffer a lack of confidence following the sudden resignation of a key figurehead.
Neale Sadler, who will now take over the role of chairman after the departure of Roy Dodd, said his decision to quit had come as a “real blow” to the event.
Mr Sadler said businessman Mr Dodd had turned the show, which had been heading into administration, back into profit in just a year, and was held in high respect and confidence by creditors who are still owed huge sums of cash.
He said he feared Mr Dodd’s decision to leave his role as chairman, director and trustee of The Shropshire & West Midlands Agricultural Society, which runs the show, would have a negative impact on creditors.
But he said committee members were determined to continue the progress made with preparations for next year’s event going well.
Mr Dodd resigned on Wednesday, claiming he was subjected to “personal, drunken and foul-mouthed abuse” at the end of this year’s show.
Mr Sadler said Mr Dodd would be a hard act to follow. “I think it’s a real blow because, from a creditor’s point of view, with all the money they are owed they put their trust in Roy and after the first year he delivered what he said he would deliver and they might be a bit more concerned now.
“They might be thinking where are they heading? What will the future hold?”

As Supervisor of the society’s CVA, I would like to express my personal thanks to Roy for all his hard efforts in helping turn the society around and provide real hope to the historic creditors. It is a shame to see the Chairman go, and I am sure it will be a tough task to find a replacement, however I believe the remaining trustees who worked hard with Roy to ensure the CVA was approved and the turnaround was successful will continue their hard efforts and positive work for the local community’s benefit.
I hope everyone will continue to support these volunteers to allow them to implement the plan and see a successful outcome for the show, its creditors and the county.
