Succesful year for Blists Hill Victorian Town
Tuesday 28th December 2010, 12:51PM GMT.
A Shropshire tourist attraction has had one of the most successful years in its history with hundreds of thousands of visitors coming through the doors.
The number of people visiting Blists Hill Victorian Town at Madeley soared another 10 per cent on last year. Bosses say this equates to about 250,000 visitors.
The number of people visiting the 10 museums is also expected to be up but final figures are still being calculated.
In 2009 there were more than half a million visitors across all the sites.
Bosses at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust said the new developments installed and awards won by the museums had helped to boost visitor numbers.
They said visitor numbers for Blists Hill were over and above last year, which was one of the most successful years in the trust’s 43-year history.
Paul Gossage, director of marketing and pr at the trust, said: “Visitors are still keen to see the fantastic new developments at Blists Hill such as Canal Street with its fried fish dealers, drapers and other shops, as well as the spectacular film show in the new visitor centre.”
Steve Miller, trust chief executive, added: “We are confident that 2011 will once again be a year to remember and we look forward to welcoming visitors back to all 10 of the Ironbridge Gorge Museums.”
