Dozens object to 49ft Telford mast application
Tuesday 28th December 2010, 1:04PM GMT.
Dozens of objections have been lodged by residents in Telford over controversial proposals for a 49ft telecommunications mast near their homes. The plan has been put forward by Vodafone (UK) and Telefonica O2 (UK).
The companies want to put up the pole with antennae and equipment cabinet in Priorslee Avenue in Priorslee.
But residents say it would be an eyesore and have concerns about health implications for children.
Telford & Wrekin Council’s plans board is being recommended to approve the application.
A report to the meeting on January 5 says: “The proposed 14.8m high slim line telecommunications monopole does not require a full planning application and therefore prior approval is given for the siting and appearance of the telecommunications installation and its permitted development rights are hereby confirmed.”
Ward member Councillor Ian Fletcher has also objected to the plan, saying the pole would be in an area where children play and young people congregate.
Councillor Fletcher is also concerned the pole would be situated where two traffic accidents have occurred and is worried it could increase the risk of injuries.
When the report to the plans board was drawn up 74 letters and e-mails had been received objecting to the proposal, claiming the mast would be too close to homes, is a poor choice of location, would be an eyesore, would jeopardise highway safety and could impact on health.

Dozens ? Is that dozens of objections ? Is this a news story at all or have we nothing better to report over the holiday? I wonder how many of these objectors consider a mobile phone a necessity of life these days , or should I re-phrase that as, how many of these objectors do not use a mobile phone.
I just thought it appropriate to include a definition of the word hypocrisy.n 1 the pactice of claiming to have standards or beliefs that are contrary to ones real character or actual behaviour.
Of whose political benefit is this news story?
In the words of Jim Bowen “That’s a bullseye”.
Another definition to keep things going – Priorslee aka Snob Hill “focal point of NIMBYism”
would this be because you aren’t able to afford a property in this area?? “Snob Hill” just because we have worked hard to live in a stunning area like this.

“Dozens ? Is that dozens of objections ?”
Presumably – if you know different please let us know, otherwise what is the point of your comment?
Of course it’s a news story, surely this sort of thing is the mainstay of local papers, holidays or not. If the Star didn’t report it then I’m sure others would suggest that they had ulterior motives…..come to think of it, what exactly are you suggesting in your last question?
PS: before you ask I have absolutely no personal interest in this story, and live several miles away from the site of the proposed mast.
Well actually I wonder if you would like a cancer stick in your back garden!! There is excellent coverage and it is not required or desired. The fact that these companies try to push these things through at christmas so they don’t get objections is the point of the story…. I hope it doesn’t happen to you next year!

with storys like this no wonder I cancelled the star.
Ye Gods! Can you imagine any of the objectors being other than frantic when their Iphones or Blackberrys don’t work or when the phones given to the kiddywinkies by Father Christmas can’t get a signal?
This sounds to be a bit of a bitter comment to me. So because we can afford these types of phones, we don’t have a right to our say??
Don’t any of you think that people have a right to have their say in their area?
Its a bit hypocritical if some of these ” dozens of people ” own mobile phones of their own though, don’t you think.
I don’t think that there are few people out here who would dispute the right to have a say about their area, what tends to grind somewhat though is hypocrisy.
I’m fairly sure that if they turned off the mobile phone signal to the objectors phones there would be screaming blue murder.
Please can they resite the mast somewhere close to my house? I won’t object because I might stand a chance of getting a signal.
They are no more visually offensive than street lights and like others have said I bet all the objectors use mobile phones.
These people need to get some perspective.

“These people need to get some perspective.”
Also views of Telford are so bad that they cannot be ruined, only improved.

“Councillor Fletcher is also concerned the pole would be situated where two traffic accidents have occurred and is worried it could increase the risk of injuries”…on what basis does the learned councillor make this comment?
I know let’s take away all the street lamps too, that way cars won’t crash into them causing injuries to the occupants or bystanders, likewise ‘youths’ will not congregate around them thereby reducing anti-social behaviour.

I see that according to http://www.telford.gov.uk website Cllr Fletcher has a mobile phone ,I wonder how he gets on with it, my mobile is also with the telepathy-uk network and I just can’t get a reliable signal, do you think I too should build an ivory tower to see if this helps?
These people grind my gears what are they gathering for to complain about something that is required eye sore or not. Out of interest how many people out the dozens used there mobile phone to complain aboutt his issue and in fact someone must have made the star aware of thsi by contacting them. Leaving me out with all this drivel
Report abuse
can the phone companies get hold of the addresses of those who complain and cancel their mobile phone contracts as they don’t don’t want the masts, so i assume don’t need mobiles
or is it ok for masts to be placed on the local council estate?
typical NIMBY’s
Report abuse
So because some of us work hard enough to live in a nice area like Priorslee we are snobs?? If this was being proposed next to most of your houses your reactions would be exactly the same. End of the day there is plenty of wasteland not council or privately owned housing areas that could be perfectly used for this mast. There is no need for it in the area it is proposed for, I have been with O2 for many years and my current signal is perfect. What is the need??
