£100,000 bequest to the Severn Hospice
Saturday 25th December 2010, 12:00AM GMT.
Shropshire’s Severn Hospice has received an early Christmas present after a generous resident left a £100,000 donation in his will.
Raymond West decided he wanted to leave the money to an unspecified local charity caring for cancer patients.
Solicitors Milton, Francis and Hughes of Oswestry contacted the hospice after Mr West died to ask staff to put a case forward as to why they should receive the legacy, and now the bequest has been handed over.
It is a huge boost for the charity, which provides care and support to thousands of people every year from across Shropshire and Mid Wales who are living with life-threatening illnesses such as cancer.
Norma Ross, Severn Hospice’s appeals director, said: “We are very grateful to Mr West for acknowledging the vital work done by charities like ours by leaving such a generous bequest and we are delighted to have been selected to receive the legacy.”
