Shrewsbury vicar answers postie’s prayers

A Shropshire postman has joined forces with a county vicar to clear a backlog of undelivered mail.
Postie Gareth Edwards, who delivers to houses in Frankwell and Mountfields, in Shrewsbury, has teamed up with local vicar Reverend Murray McBride to find the perfect place for people to pick up their mail – the parish church.
People have been flocking to St George’s Church since the postal pick-up point was set up at the venue on Tuesday.
Reverend McBride said: “We’ve had a really great response. There were about 20 people in here at one time, and more than 50 people over the whole two hours on Tuesday.
He added: “Gareth was in a bit of dilemma with the post stacking up and he couldn’t go out. So he asked if we could be could be the public building where people came to pick up their mail.
“Obviously we are preparing for Christmas here in the church, so it has been a bit of a challenge, but it’s all worked wonderfully well.”
Paul Wilkinson, of Mountfields, said it had been a great example of the community pulling together. He said: “Our postman has put up posters around the village advertising the pick-up point and it’s meant a lot of people have been able to get their Christmas mail in time.”
