Shrewsbury man, 18, in court on arson charge

An 18-year-old Shropshire man has appeared in court charged with arson with intent to endanger life.
Matthew Gill, of Reedham Road, Herongate, Shrewsbury is accused of starting a fire at a home in the same street on Wednesday, December 1.
Gill, who appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court today, December 24, is also charged with giving a false alarm of fire to a person acting on behalf of a fire and rescue authority.
Gill, who spoke only to confirm his name, age and address, was told his case was committed to crown court for a hearing on January 4, 2011.
Gill was granted conditional bail by magistrates but will be remanded in custody over Christmas pending an appeal by the Crown Prosecution Service.
He is due to appear before Shrewsbury Crown Court on December 30.
