Men in court over separate Shropshire murders

Two men today appeared in court accused of the murders of two Shropshire women in separate incidents.

Both men appeared before Judge Robin Onions for preliminary hearings at Shrewsbury Crown Court following incidents in Hanwood, near Shrewsbury, and Oswestry on December 14.

Steven Churchill, 51, of Stephenson Drive, Shrewsbury, is charged with murdering Jane Francis Edwards after he was arrested on December 15.

Miss Edwards was found dead at a flat in Caradoc View, Hanwood, at about 6.40pm the previous evening.

Brian Woodmass, 58, of Orchard Street, Oswestry, appeared before the court after being charged with the murder of Jill Nevitt, who was found at an address in Orchard Street, also on December 14.

Both men were remanded in custody.
