Calendar puts Shrewsbury Ladies Rugby Club on the map

A racy calendar which was put together by a Shropshire ladies rugby team has been recognised as one of the best of its kind by a national magazine.
The Calendar Girls-style collection by Shrewsbury Ladies Rugby Club features the team in a series of raunchy rugby-related poses. It has been flying off the shelves and has now been listed in Rugby World’s top 10 calendars for 2011.
A particularly “cheeky” shot of one of the team being applauded off the Sundorne Castle pitch after giving her all features in the January edition of the magazine.
Since it was published, the club has received orders for the calendar from all over the home nations, as well as from France, Italy and even the USA.
Shrewsbury skipper Karen Lee said she was delighted to have put the club on the map.
“We’re amazed and delighted by the success of the calendar,” she said.
“It was great fun to do and it’s gone down really well.
“There will be a lot of rugby fans all over the world getting the Shrewsbury Ladies in their Christmas stocking this year.
“We’ve had lots of orders already and more are coming in. It’s fantastic to be up there alongside the professionals and the internationals. Let’s hope it rubs off on the field as well.”
