Experts finish work at Shropshire murder scenes
Saturday 18th December 2010, 12:19PM GMT.
Police forensics teams have ended on-site investigations following the killings of two Shropshire women in separate incidents.
Cordons around the flat where a woman was found dead, in Hanwood, near Shrewsbury, have been removed and a final police search was due to be completed today after a woman was found dead in Oswestry.
Police today also issued a fresh appeal for information to help with the two inquiries.
It came after two men appeared at Shrewsbury Magistrates Court yesterday following the separate incidents which both happened on Tuesday evening.
Steven Churchill appeared before magistrates charged with murdering Jane Francis Edwards.
Churchill was arrested on Wednesday at 5am at his home after police found Miss Edwards dead at a flat in Caradoc View, Hanwood, at about 6.40pm the previous day.
The 51-year-old of Stephenson Drive, Shrewsbury, spoke only to confirm his name and address during the brief hearing.
He was remanded in custody and the case was referred to Shrewsbury Crown Court until Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Brian Woodmass, of Orchard Street, Oswestry, also appeared before magistrates yesterday charged with murder in a separate incident.
Woodmass, 58, was charged with murdering Jill Nevitt after she was found dead at an address in Orchard Street on Tuesday night.
The case was adjourned and is also due to be heard before the crown court in Shrewsbury on Tuesday.
Woodmass was remanded in custody until the next hearing.
Maria Wilkinson, a spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said police work had been completed in Hanwood and forensic and search work was due to be brought to a close at the flat in Oswestry today.
