Soccer star hails Ricky Furgusson as hero
Thursday 16th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Footballing superstar David Beckham knows who England should be truly proud of after introducing his son Brooklyn to Shropshire Military Cross winner Ricky Furgusson.
“Here’s a real hero, son,” Becks told the youngster at a glittering awards ceremony last night.
Corporal Furgusson met the former England ace and 11-year-old Brooklyn in London where he attended a star studded ceremony to collect yet another award.
The 25-year-old soldier, from Stirchley, lost both legs, an eye and fingers on both hands in a bomb blast in Afghanistan in January. Surgeons rebuilt his face using tissue from his forearm.
Corporal Furgusson, of 4th Battalion The Rifles, was awarded the Military Cross after going to the aid of wounded comrades on four separate occasions.
The hero last night picked up a Life Saver award at the Night of Heroes: The Sun Military Awards at the Imperial War Museum.
He even shared a joke with Beck’s boy Brooklyn after the presentation, asking him: “Are you going to be a footballer like your dad. He’s not bad”.
