A former Shropshire businessman has had his bid to takeover Port Vale Football Club rejected by its board.

Mo Chaudry, who used to live in Wellington, wrote to the Staffordshire club expressing a formal interest in “purchasing a major shareholding”.

But in a statement the club said it had unanimously rejected the approach and all members had decided it would not be pursued at any stage in the future.

In a statement, the club said: “Though the board welcomes approaches for investment into Port Vale, it is important to stress that the club’s major shareholders are not looking to sell Port Vale in its entirety.

“Furthermore, any sale of the football club would have to be sanctioned by 71 per cent of its shareholders.
