Council set to probe call-out
Thursday 16th December 2010, 11:00AM GMT.
Councillors in Llanfyllin say they will consider making a Freedom on Information Act request to find out how many times the town’s ambulance is called away to cover other areas.
A shake-up in cover is leaving the town without an ambulance too often and for too long, councillors fear.
Welsh Ambulance Trust bosses say the changes are designed to use “dynamic deployment” to make sure the appropriate resources are available.
But at a meeting last night, councillors said they remained concerned about cover and agreed to meet ambulance bosses at their March meeting.
Councillor Darren Mayor said the council should ask how often the town’s ambulance is called away.
He said if ambulance bosses were unable to provide the data, the council should consider applying for it under Freedom of Information rules.
Councillor Mayor said: “Under these changes, our nearest ambulance may not even be in Welshpool but actually in Newtown.”
