Hadnall without water after water main bursts
Wednesday 15th December 2010, 1:01PM GMT.
Homes and businesses in a north Shropshire village were without water today due to a burst water main. Severn Trent Water said it had received about 40 phone calls about the issue.
Reports that a pipe feeding Hadnall had burst, leaving parts of the village affected, were received by water bosses at about 5.20am.
They also said the burst main is partly underground and engineers have been using ultra sound equipment to try to fix it.
Hadnall Primary School closed for the day as a result.
A school spokeswoman said: “Given the information we received early this morning we decided to close the school for the entire day because the children wouldn’t have been able to use the toilets and we didn’t have any running water.
“Our Christmas concert tonight is still due to take place but the children’s Christmas parties will take place tomorrow instead.”
Peter Clarke, who lives about 1.5 miles outside Hadnall, said: “We are on a private water supply so haven’t experienced any problems.
“However, I know people in the village have had problems and I have been ringing a few people this morning to see if they are alright.
“I believe the problems have been caused because of a burst water main.”
Gill Dickinson, a spokeswoman for Severn Trent, said: “We received reports about the problems in Hadnall at about 5.20am which we believe were caused by a burst water main.
“We have received calls from about 40 people saying they are without water and have sent engineers to try and fix it.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and will try and get the water back on as soon as possible.”
