Planners have given the final go-ahead for a new Telford & Wrekin Council civic headquarters to be built in the town centre.

Members of the council’s plans board agreed the proposal, which will kick start the £250 million redevelopment of the Southwater area of the town, last night.

The five-storey building will include space for a restaurant, shops and a First Point, one-stop-shop for council services.

Well, there’s a turn up for the books!

It would have been headline news if Telford & Wrekin’s plans board had turned down Telford & Wrekin’s plans…

How ugly, what an eyesore. It looks like something out of the 60′s I would have thought a more traditional design would have been more in line with todays architecture and thinking

I would be most interested to know how environmentally friendly this pile of boxes with their flat roofs are going to be.

Traditional as in neo-gothic palace like Manchester’s town hall or Birmingham’s neo-classical one? Or do you mean generic red brick pastiche like Shrewsbury’s new Guildhall? If so no thanks. I’d rather have a building made of blue-brick, timber and glass. I’m a little nervous of the white terracotta panels but hopefully it will turn out well.
Saying “oh that looks like something from the 60s” is not very constructive nor is it very accurate. The only concrete in it will be the floor slabs and core.

If you think it looks like something out of the sixties the take a trip to Newport High street and look at the Nightclub there, that’s something from the sixties, I for one think it looks a beautiful and compared to the civic centre that is there at the moment, this is a big step forwards for Telford Town Centre

What’s wrong with setting up office in some of the empty warehouses on Stafford park? Equally as close, great road access, right next to the train station and best of all they are cheap!!!!!

I suppose that cannot happen though as our poor underpaid and over worked public sector slaves deserve so much better than the private sector workers.

Perhaps they are going to have a living roof with grass etc to be environmentally friendly, we can only hope.

If i am not mistaken, are they not supposed to be saving money? or are they so special that they think it doesn’t apply to them?
I guess we can all look forward to cost’s of living now rising to cover their outrageous bill’s for a building that is simply a WANT not a NEED. :/ Thank you Telford&Wrekin.

I looks awful and just imagine, in ten years time, when all that white looks as dull as their present uncleaned building, they will be wanting a new one.

Talk about changing the car when the ashtrays are full……
