Warning for Powys boy racers
Wednesday 8th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Boy racers in a Powys town have been warned they face losing their cars unless they change their driving habits.
Police in Knighton said vehicles could end up being seized if incidents of weekly “boy or girl racers” gatherings around the town continued, particularly in the Bowling Green Lane car park.
One resident from Knighton, who did not wish to be named, said there were problems which were disturbing neighbours.
He said: “I hope those responsible will take heed of what the police are saying.”
Constable Bill Cowan, of Knighton Police, said Dyfed-Powys Police would work closely with the public to target the problem. He said: “Concerns were expressed at a Police and Communities Together meeting about the boy racers after residents said that there is a growing number of joyriders or boy/girl racers driving in an anti-social manner around town.
“When a car is stopped for a matter such as this, the driver is served with a Section 59 Police Reform Act 2002 notice advising the owner that should he drive in a similar careless and inconsiderate manner, his vehicle would be seized.”
He urged residents to report any incidents to the police. “Residents who witness such behaviour are being urged to report the incident to the police so it can be logged and action can be taken,” he said.
Anyone experiencing problems with boy racers is asked to call Knighton Police on 101 or (0845) 3302000.
