A £3.9 million Shropshire project to create two youth centres is back on track after winning vital Government funding.
The Department for Education says the plans for Teenspace youth centres in Shrewsbury and Oswestry have secured capital funding.
The Teenspace Shrewsbury centre planned for the town centre will have a chill-out room with a coffee bar and internet cafe, performance space with a stage area and production facility.
The Oswestry project will see the current youth centre at Oak Street rebuilt.
It will have IT facilities, a coffee bar, kitchen, multi-media suite, practice and dance room, and reception.
Both centres will also provide a one-stop shop for information and guidance.
Children’s Minister Tim Loughton, said: “In the tough economic climate, securing this funding is testament to the importance the Government is placing on supporting young people.”
The funding will be available to projects over the next two years.
Aggie Caesar-Homden, Shropshire Council cabinet member for children and young people’s services, said: “We have been expecting an announcement and are delighted with this news.”
She added they were working with the Big Lottery on the way forward.
