Tributes to Oswestry taxi driver, 64
Saturday 4th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Tributes have been paid to a “well liked” Oswestry taxi driver who died after falling ill at the wheel of his car.
Derek Price, from St Martins, was today described by colleagues as a “real gentleman”.
The 64-year-old died on Thursday after falling ill as he drove near Wem. His car came to a stop after clipping a lamppost near Newtown CE Primary School.
Mr Price’s wife Pam said today: “Nobody can believe what has happened. We have all been left shaken by this and nobody can get over this.
“The coroner has called and said he died from natural causes relating to a heart problem. He died while he was doing a school run. There was no children in the car at the time it happened, thank goodness.”
Henry Pugh, who used to own Burgess Taxis in Oswestry, said: “It is a terrible shock and he was such a nice lad. He was a real gentleman.”
Mr Price also leaves two daughters and four grandchildren.
