Oswestry transformed for Christmas Live event
Saturday 4th December 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
Oswestry was transformed into a festive winter wonderland as the town’s Christmas Live event was blanketed in snow.
The constant snowfall failed to put off thousands who poured into the town last night for the late-night shopping extravaganza.
This year’s Christmas Live was the 11th organised by Oswestry Town Council and the biggest held to date.
There were more fairground rides than ever before at the event and for the first time a food market, along with charity stalls, filled Bailey Street .
Carols were performed by the Prime Percussion group in Bailey Head while bands turned Festival Square into an outdoor concert venue.
And street entertainers kept the late-night shoppers amused.
The night ended with a firework display.
Town clerk David Preston praised the people of Oswestry for turning out and supporting Christmas Live.
“There has been a really festive atmosphere, it has been a good night for Oswestry,” he said.
“I hope it has been a success for Oswestry’s traders.”
And more people were flocking to the town today for Oswestry’s annual Christmas parade organised by the Borderland Rotary Club.
