Teenager held over suspected Shrewsbury arson
Friday 3rd December 2010, 7:00PM GMT.
A teenager has been arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a Shrewsbury home. The blaze was in the entrance-way of the house in Reedham Road, on the Herongate estate.
It was reported to police by fire crews shortly after 11pm on Wednesday.
A coat was reportedly set alight, causing more than £100 worth of damage to the door.
It was quickly dealt with by the fire service and nobody was injured.
Following a police search, an 18 year old man was arrested a short time later and taken into custody at Shrewsbury police station.
He has since been interviewed and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
It follows a series of suspected arson attacks on the estate over the past few weeks, with police investigations on-going.
Three previous arrests have been made and the men concerned released on police bail.
Detective Sergeant Andy Chatting, from Shrewsbury CID, appealed for anyone who may have witnessed people acting suspiciously in the Reedham Road area on Wednesday to contact police.
“Police continue to actively investigate the series of arson attacks that have taken place in the Herongate area over the past couple of months.
“Although this is the first incident for some time, we wish to reassure residents by continuing with regular patrols of the area and appealing for the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to police.”
Anyone with information is urged to ring police.
