Shrewsbury road chaos after lorry hits police car
Friday 3rd December 2010, 1:06PM GMT.
Shropshire motorists faced traffic chaos near Shrewsbury this morning after a lorry was involved in a collision with a police car.
The West Mercia Police vehicle was parked alongside the westbound carriageway of the A5 near Preston Island when it was hit by a lorry, at around 9.20am.
No police officers were in the vehicle at the time of the collision and nobody was hurt in the incident.
It is not believed to have been weather related.
Maria Wilkinson, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said officers in the charge of the car had been attending to a member of the public who had broken down in another car.
She said: “At 9.30am today a West Mercia Police Vehicle was stationed on the westbound carriageway of the A5 in Shrewsbury. The vehicle had stopped for officers to attend a broken down car when a lorry was involved in a collision with the police car.”
Nobody was injured and details have been exchanged with the other driver. Arrangements were made for the recovery of the police car.”
