Letter – Cost to be in the EU a royal pain
Friday 3rd December 2010, 11:27AM GMT.
I note that the media is full of experts, referring to the costs of the royal family. I decided to do some research.
I examined the respective finances of the British, Swedish and Netherlands royal families. In the UK we pay 0.68 pence per capita. Sweden pays £1 per capita and Belgium £2.10 per capita.
I then examined the cost of UK membership of the European Union (wanted only by professional politicians). Quite revealing. It costs us £42 million per day. In a single day, EU membership costs more than the royal family in a year.
If you doubt my figures, look at the Pink Book of Government statistics. If we had a President, the cost would be beyond bearing.
