Shropshire brides-to-be shun royal wedding day

He said: “It depends how people view it, you have got to remember that for brides it is their big day and they don’t want to care about anyone else. They want the attention on them rather than people wanting to watch the TV and watch Prince William get married.”
Many couples wanting to get wed may be keen to share their big day with the possible future King and Queen but Shropshire brides are shunning the date for fear it will be a major distraction, it was claimed today.
Despite some places across the country saying they have been inundated with requests for weddings on April 29 next year, county venues have reported a lack of enthusiasm for the date.
The prince and his fiancee, both 28, will tie the knot at Westminster Abbey, London, on a date which it has already been announced will be a public holiday.
But Paul Subbiani, whose family owns the Albright Hussey Hotel, near Shrewsbury, has nothing booked on that date and believed some brides were concerned that their big day could be overshadowed by Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding if they got married on the same day.
He said: “It depends how people view it, you have got to remember that for brides it is their big day and they don’t want to care about anyone else. They want the attention on them rather than people wanting to watch the TV and watch Prince William get married.”
Carly Bedwell, from Mercure Albrighton Hall Hotel, said they also had April 29 free.
She said: “I suppose it comes down to personal preferences but also with it being quite short notice they will have a lot to sort out in between.”
Margot Foster, assistant director at the Wroxeter Hotel, near Shrewsbury, said they also did not have a booking for April 29.
She said: “I think it will be a popular date to get married because of the royal wedding. I think it will be for a Posh and Becks type, a young well-to-do couple.”
Karen Norton, from Rowton Castle, also near Shrewsbury, said they already had a booking for April 29 but it had been secured for some time.
Mark Lewis, director of Hadley Park House Hotel in Telford, said they had no bookings for April 29 but were working on a special promotion for the big day.
