Wrexham & Shropshire limits fare increases
Friday 26th November 2010, 12:16PM GMT.
Shropshire rail company Wrexham & Shropshire is bucking the trend after bosses announced they would freeze some fares and limit increases on others.
Wrexham & Shropshire’s announcement comes at a time when rail travellers have been warned they are facing an average rail fare rise nationally of 6.2 per cent in the new year.
But despite this Wrexham & Shropshire today said it was freezing its fully flexible fares this January and increasing its semi flexible fares by no more than £5.
Since launching its service in April 2008, Wrexham & Shropshire has provided a direct transport link to the capital from the county.
Andy Hamilton, Wrexham & Shropshire’s managing director, said: “We realise that this comes at a time when we are all cutting back.
“We have done our best to keep fares as low as we possibly can and still maintain a punctual and reliable service.”

Well Done Wrexham and Shropshire for holding some fares at lower rates than most UK train Operator. However did you hold your prices at a lower level, as the Rail Magazine say you are cutting services in the both direction and making some journeys up to 22 minutes longer on some journeys to and from London due to lower numbers, try being completely honest with the public in future
