Pedestrian badly hurt in Oswestry crash
Saturday 20th November 2010, 11:29AM GMT.
A pedestrian suffered serious head injuries when he was involved in a collision with a car in Shropshire early today. The man has not yet been named.
Paramedics from a passing ambulance stopped to help the man following the accident at about 1.30am.
Police said he had been walking along the B5069 Oswestry to Gobowen Road when he was involved in the collision with possibly a taxi or private hire car.
Officers investigating the accident have appealed for witnesses.
Inspector Paul Crompton, from West Mercia Police, today said the injured man was “very poorly”.
He added: “We are appealing for witnesses to the incident to contact police.”
Following the accident police officers closed the road, with traffic diverted along the A5 Oswestry by-pass. The road was reopened at about 6am.
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said an ambulance which had been taking a patient to hospital came across the accident and the crew stopped to give first aid.
A second ambulance and rapid response crew arrived and the man was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Claire Thomas, ambulance spokesman, said the man was later transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire at Stoke-on-Trent.
Anyone with information is asked to contact West Mercia Police on 0300 3333000.
In a separate accident in Telford rush hour traffic had to be diverted after a three-car smash. The accident happened near the roundabout at Donnington Wood in Donnington Wood Way just before 6.40pm last night. The drivers of the three vehicles only suffered minor injuries.
