Second man charged with murder of Telford worker

A SECOND MAN has been charged with murdering a Telford factory worker, police said today.

The man, who is from the Telford area but is believed to be Polish, was charged by detectives this morning with the murder of Pavol Lazar and was expected to appear before magistrates in the town this afternoon.

The body of the victim, who was originally from the Czech Republic, was discovered at a flat at Farm Lodge Grove in Malinslee on October 8.

A Polish man, Mariusz Garbackzewski, 24, of Stanier Drive, Woodside, who is also charged with the murder, has already appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court for a preliminary hearing.

He has been remanded in custody and is due to be back in court on January 5.

Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said today: “A man has been charged with murder and will be appearing at Telford Magistrates Court.”

A post-mortem examination had revealed Mr Pavol, who was originally from the Czech Republic, had died of head injuries.

The welder had just graduated from Telford’s GKN Sankey training centre and was due to take up a full-time position in the factory.

Colleagues at GKN Sankey had described Mr Lazar as “very popular and hardworking” and a spokesman at the firm had told of their shock to hear of his death.

More than 20 detectives had been working on the investigation into the death.

Neighbours described how the flats in Farm Lodge Grove had been sealed off for at least two days after Mr Lazar’s body was discovered.

It is understood Mr Lazar lived at various addresses in the Malinslee and Brookside areas of the town.

His family in the Czech Republic had been informed of his death.
