Youths arrested over Knighton vandalism
Wednesday 17th November 2010, 11:36AM GMT.
A number of youths have been arrested following a spate of vandalism in a Mid Wales town.
The four have been bailed pending further inquiries as police in Knighton continue to investigate incidents of vandalism which hit the town last week.
Constable Bill Cowan said he believed one group of people were responsible for at least eight of the 10 incidents.
Windows have been smashed at Knighton Baptist Chapel, parked cars have had wing mirrors ripped off and the glass in a bus shelter has been shattered.
Eggs have also been thrown at passing cars and windscreen wipers ripped off.
Constable Cowan said the vandalism had blighted the town, leading to a meeting being set up between residents and police next month.
He said: “In the past week alone, Knighton suffered a total of 10 offences of this nature.
“It is a shame that such a blight has descended upon Knighton in recent weeks as apart from this scourge of vandalism and anti-social behaviour, the town is a relatively crime-free zone and a pleasant place to live.”
The meeting will be held at 7pm at St Edward’s Church Hall in Church Street, Knighton, on December 2.
