Rifle and dog attack on sheep at Clee Hill beauty spot
Tuesday 16th November 2010, 6:00PM GMT.
One sheep was killed by a dog and another shot through the neck with a bullet from a rifle in two incidents at a south Shropshire beauty spot.
The incidents have both taken place in the Catherton Common area of Clee Hill in the past two weeks. The sheep that was shot is still alive but struggles to lift its head more than six inches off the ground.
It has led to members of Clee Hill Commoners Association drawing up posters urging visitors to keep their dogs under control.
It is hoped a noticeboard will also be set up in the near future providing information for people using the area.
Chris Neal, association chairman, said: “The incident where the sheep was shot was very dangerous – it was not a shot from normal gun but a bullet from a rifle.
“The situation is very worrying and we have had further reports of lurchers running across the common on Sunday.
West Mercia Police said walkers in the countryside should ensure their dogs were kept in sight and always on a lead whenever near farm animals.
