Lembit Opik wins over the voters for a change

Monday 15th November 2010, 10:12AM GMT.

Former Mid Wales MP Lembit Opik finally won over some voters but for all the wrong reasons as he canoed into I’m A Celebrity…Get Me out of Here.

Viewers got the first glimpse of Mr Opik as he took on his first Bushtucker Trial and braved a journey by canoe to get to the camp in the latest series of the reality show.

But before he even reached his new home in the outback he had annoyed smooth-talking actor Nigel Havers and later found himself the first choice for the viewers to face another Bushtucker Trial tonight.

The former politician admitted to his fellow contestants he was only there because he had lost his Montgomeryshire seat earlier this year.

But at least he has attracted some interest with fans who were keen to see more of him in action tonight.

Unfortunately though not because he is yet in line to win the ultimate prize.

Bookies have today picked former X-Factor finalist Stacey Solomon as the favourite to be crowned Queen of the Jungle.

She amused fans with a series of one-liners last night and the girl from Dagenham could just get all the way to the final and be the latest young woman to win.

Then again Lembit is used to missing out on taking the top spot after a hard-fought election after he lost his seat to Glyn Davies in this year’s general election.
