X Factor’s Treyc Cohen to switch on Telford Christmas lights

X Factor finalist Treyc Cohen, who was caught up in this week’s vote controversy, will be heading to Shropshire this month to switch on the Telford Shopping Centre’s Christmas lights.

The Tamworth singer, who became the seventh finalist to leave the show last weekend, will also be performing and meeting fans during the evening of entertainment on November 25.

Appearing alongside Treyc will be the stars of Oakengates Theatre’s pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Beacon Radio Roadshow and special guests from across the region.

Treyc’s exit from the hit ITV1 show on Sunday evening has sparked more than 2,000 complaints to TV watchdog Ofcom and ITV after Cheryl Cole refused to choose between her and another act because she mentored them both. Katie Waissel remained on the show instead, despite being less popular with viewers.

But the 26-year-old singer, who also appeared in last year’s X Factor and made it through to the final 24, is not bitter and has said she’s thoroughly looking forward to whatever comes next in her singing career.

Treyc will perform four tracks before flicking the switch on the shopping centre’s new festive light display.

Immediately following the lights switch-on, Father Christmas will parade around the centre before opening his Grotto in Sherwood Square.

“Treyc is a real talent and a local girl too, so we’re delighted she’s agreed to kick off our Christmas festivities in style this year,” said Tracy Hadley, Telford Shopping Centre marketing manager.

What a coup for Telford! I never thought they’d top Stavros Flatley but then they pull an A-lister like this out of the bag! Gosh, its getting like Beverley Hills round there, you ought to think about erecting a large “TELFORD” sign on the wrekin – Hollywood style (thats if you can keep the vandals away for 5 minutes).

….and here was me thinking all those holes in the pavements were down to poor maintenance – they’re actually going to be used to hold handprints of the stars, like in Hollywood….
