Shrewsbury McDonald’s seeks 24-hour opening
Tuesday 9th November 2010, 3:59PM GMT.
Big Macs could be on the menu all day and night in Shrewsbury after fast food giant McDonald’s submitted plans for 24-hour opening.
The restaurant on the Meole Brace Retail Park has applied to Shropshire Council to vary its planning permission to allow the change.
A decision is expected on the plans by December 22.
If approved the time extension would lead to the creation of about five jobs.
Bob Beckett, franchisee of the venue, said: “Two years ago we refitted the store and this year we have just finished creating a dual drive-through which is only the 10th of its kind in the country. Opening 24-hour is the next logical step.”
The store employs 97 people.
Mr Beckett said if plans were approved they would look to start opening all day and night just before Easter next year and expand their staff numbers gradually.
Any objections or letters of support from the public must be received by the end of the month before a decision is due to be made in December.
The restaurant is currently open from 7.30am to 11pm Monday to Sunday.
