Promise over Ludlow hospital beds
Tuesday 9th November 2010, 11:12AM GMT.
Ludlow’s new £27 million hospital will have the same number of beds as its predecessor – allaying fears the town could be losing out.
Fears had been raised by members of Ludlow Hospital League of Friends after an initial business case suggested the new hospital at Ludlow Eco Business Park would only have 28 beds.
But now officials at Shropshire County Primary Care Trust have revealed the hospital will have 36 in-patient beds with a further four available for the midwifery unit – matching the 40 beds available at the current hospital on Gravel Hill.
Plans for the new hospital will be discussed at a meeting of Ludlow Health Forum on November 19 at Ludlow Conference Centre.
It will be chaired by Ludlow MP Philip Dunne, is invitation only and will include representatives from Shropshire Council, Ludlow Town Council, Ludlow Civic Society and the League of Friends of Ludlow Hospital.
Mat James, for Shropshire County PCT, said: “Since our original plans were put forward last year we have received a whole year’s worth of data to analyse. It’s based on the most up-to-date date available to the PCT.”
Peter Corfield, chairman of the League of Friends, said: “There were quite a few of us who were worried about the number of beds, but we will have 40.”
