Shropshire Bonfire night passes quietly
Monday 8th November 2010, 9:13AM GMT.
No major incidents or injuries were reported at bonfire and fireworks events in Shropshire over the weekend.
Emergency services staff today said this year’s celebrations around the county were a great success.
Thousands of Shropshire residents braved wet and windy conditions to attend a variety of large scale organised events taking place in Shrewsbury, Telford, Ironbridge, Bridgnorth and at Weston Park near Shifnal.
Chris Kowalik, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said they were not aware of any serious incidents happening as a result of the bonfire night celebrations.
He thanked all show organisers and residents putting on their own parties for following advice and guidance handed out and making sure events were carried out safely.
He said: “Fortunately we were not made aware of any serious bonfire night or firework related incidents over the weekend.”
More than 5,000 people saw a pyrotechnics display at the agricultural showground, in Berwick Road, Shrewsbury, last night.
Organisers had a big band and other activities to keep the crowds entertained.
Thousands more people visited Weston Park last night and Blists Hill museum in Ironbridge on Saturday night.
