A man has died and three other people were seriously injured after their car left a road and ended up in a field on the Shropshire/Staffordshire border today.
The victim, who was a rear seat passenger in a blue Ford Fiesta, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at Haughton, near Gnosall.
A male driver and two female passengers, were taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire with serious injuries.
The A518 Newport Road was closed for several hours.
Carol Evans, a Staffordshire Police spokeswoman, said the accident happened near Villa Farm at about 3.20am.
Claire Thomas, a spokeswoman for the West Midlands Ambulance Trust, said the man had suffered serious injuries and “unfortunately, despite the best efforts of ambulance crews, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene”.
The three other people – all believed to be in their late teens to early 20s – suffered serious head injuries.
In a separate accident, two children and an adult were taken to hospital after their tyre blew out causing their car to smash into a telegraph pole.
The accident happened on the A458 Much Wenlock to Morville road at about 9.10pm yesterday. The road closed for nearly 12 hours.
