Mid Wales police in crackdown on bad drivers
Thursday 4th November 2010, 10:51AM GMT.
Police in Mid Wales issued 80 speeding tickets and detected 45 crimes during a crackdown on bad driving in the region, following a spate of accidents.
Dyfed-Powys Police said it was not tolerating anti-social driving after one fatal and dozens of non-serious accidents in recent weeks.
The campaign included officers from Mid Wales Roads Policing Unit patrolling a number of locations in the north of the county to target specific areas and offenders.
Antony Topazio, force spokesman, said: “Following a spate of incidents in Montgomeryshire, which included one fatal collision, 15 injury collisions and 52 non-injury collisions, the Mid Wales RPU chose the area for the all Wales Illegal Driver campaign.
“In total, the partnership detected 45 offences and customs detected three vehicles that were running on red diesel.
“In addition, during the month of October the unit also issued 80 speeding fixed penalty tickets across various rural locations in Montgomeryshire.”

A crackdown on bad driving is an excellent euphemism for governments to say “we need more cash”.
Would we see headlines saying a “crackdown on anti social behaviour, officers on the beat”, I don’t think so as there’s no money to be made. Tough stuff managing policing and budgets and the welfare of people vs the motorist. My thoughts, now go ahead, abuse awaiting.
