Dozens of residents were evacuated from a care home in Mid Wales after a fire broke out in a laundry room.

The fire started at Llys Hafren residential home in Severn Road, Welshpool, at about 10pm yesterday.

Jane Humphreys, manager, said today: “Everybody is fine here today. We were evacuated but the residents were well looked after and we were able to return to the home in under an hour, so we are all happy today.”

Firefighters used a hose to tackle the small fire which caused minimal damage.
