Power cut blacks out 2,000 Shropshire homes

More than 2,000 homes and businesses in Shropshire were left without electricity when a falling tree tore down overhead power lines in high winds.

Utilities officials said 2,290 customers in the Newport area were affected by the power cut for about two hours last night.

They said supplies were cut off at about 5.20pm and power was restored fully by 7.45pm.
