Shropshire equestrian star Oliver Townend has launched his first ever glossy calendar.

The Badminton and Burghley champion, one of Britain’s top three-day eventers, invited renowned photographer Michael Blann to shoot a series of pictures in and around his yard near Ellesmere.

Oliver, who has more than 7,500 followers on Facebook and Twitter, said: “The photo-shoot was great fun.

“And it was a chance for some of my horses to do something different,” he added.

“I am always amazed at the support I receive on the circuit and I hope the people who follow my progress will enjoy this calendar throughout next year.

“We thought a calendar would be a good way of giving the fans a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes at my yard.”

He added: “The 2010 season has been eventful for many reasons and I am looking forward to a good winter and preparing for another exciting challenge in 2011.

“The messages I received on Facebook and Twitter after my fall in Kentucky helped me through a tough time.”

Oliver is due to bring his 2010 season to a close at the four-star event in Pau, France next week, riding ODT Master Rose, the horse that gave him a clear cross-country round before his spectacular fall on Ashdale Cruise Master at the Rolex Kentucky Three Day Event in April.

He added: “It’s been a long season and one in which Master Rose has progressed well.

“Pau is France’s equivalent of Badminton and Burghley so we are hoping to end the year in the best possible way.”

Oliver’s calendar is now available to buy, priced £12, from www.olivertownend.com or www.townendonline.com
