Prolific Telford burglar is arrested after going on the run
Thursday 28th October 2010, 9:26AM BST.
A prolific Telford burglar wanted by police after going on the run has been caught following a tip-off from a member of the public, officers said today.
A manhunt was launched after Paul Estabrook, jailed for three years in January last year for burgling his parents’ home, went on the run just weeks after being released.
He was recalled to prison at the weekend for failing to comply with the terms of his licence and officers believed he was being hidden by friends in the Donnington area of Telford.
The 29-year-old, who was released from prison on October 12 after serving half of his jail term, was caught by police after a tip-off from a member of the public.
Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said Estabrook was caught in Donnington, Telford, at about 4.40pm yesterday following a call from a member of the public.
Eight properties in the Donnington area were searched by police, with a team of up to 10 officers working on the case.
Estabrook is now being questioned by police at Malinsgate Police Station in Telford.
Mr Ammonds said: “The arrest came as a result of the story on the front page of the Shropshire Star.
“We had a number of calls in relation to him and we would like to thank everyone who helped in this investigation. We are delighted that we were able to arrest him and get him into custody to prevent any further offences being committed.
“We did have real concerns about his behaviour in terms of committing offences, especially when he was not complying with his licensing conditions.
“We would like to assure the public that he is now in custody and heading back to prison.”
