County gambler on song with X Factor Matt Cardle

An anonymous gambler from Shropshire stands to win £13,125 if Matt Cardle wins the X Factor.
Bookmakers William Hill said punters across the UK would collect millions if the painter and decorator triumphs on the reality TV show.
The Shropshire resident, whose details have been kept secret, placed a £5,000 bet on Matt when he was placed at 13/8, though Matt’s odds have since shortened to 11/8.
It is not the first big bet that the county gambler has placed – he also won £9,000 when Gino di Campo won I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
Today William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: “Punters could make millions out of a Matt victory and the early signs are that he could well go all the way.” Cardle is presently 11/8 to win and the acts with the next shortest odds are One Direction, Rebecca Ferguson, Cher Lloyd and Mary Byrne.
Graham Sharpe, William Hill’s public relations boss, added that betting on reality TV had taken off in the past 10 years.
He said: “More and more people have having a flutter, it’s been our biggest new market in recent years. But, if you look back, people also wanted to bet on who shot JR, so TV has always been attractive to the punters.”
