Shrewsbury fireworks event will go ahead
Tuesday 26th October 2010, 7:59PM BST.
Organisers of Shrewsbury’s biggest fireworks display have reassured people that it is still going ahead – despite several signs put up to promote the event being taken down.
Several boards put up to advertise the bonfire and fireworks on November 7 at the Agricultural Showground in Berwick Road have gone missing.
The event has been organised by the people behind the Shropshire County Show and they said they could not understand why someone would take the signs.
Mary Hopkins, show general manager, said: “Two signs have been taken from the road which the showground is off.
“One was promoting the bonfire night and another was promoting a car boot sale this weekend.
“Another four signs were taken before that.
“We’ve put 30 up in total around Shropshire but we don’t know how many have been taken.”
She said signs put up at the Emstrey island last night had gone this morning.
“We’re at a loss as to why someone would do this, it’s irritating because it is how we’re publicising the show but also it is costly because we have to replace the signs,” she said.
She said the committee was worried people would think it had been cancelled and wanted to reassure people it was still going ahead.
The car boot sale will take place on Sunday at 10am.
Gates will open for the bonfire on November 7 at 2.30pm with the fireworks at 6pm. Admission is £4 for adults and £2 for children or £15 per car with children under five allowed in free.
