Craven Arms man hurt in 25ft scaffolding fall

A Shropshire man suffered a serious head injury when he fell 25ft from scaffolding while working at his house.

The man was carrying out work to the roof of the property near the A49 in Craven Arms at about 3.15pm on Saturday when he fell.

A neighbour noticed part of the scaffolding had fallen down and alerted emergency services.

The man was treated for “multiple injuries” before being flown by helicopter to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The man, who has not been named, is detained in hospital today, where his condition is described as “critical but stable.”

Suzie Fothergill, spokeswoman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: “We sent one rapid response vehicle, the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford and a community first responder to the scene.

“On arrival crews found one man who is believed to have fallen approximately 25 ft. It is believed he was up some scaffolding at the time, doing some work to the roof.

“He was treated for multiple injuries, including a serious head injury and was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham to the specialist trauma centre for further assessment and treatment.”

A Queen Elizabeth spokesman said: “His condition is critical but stable.”
